Our History.
The Missouri Association for Play Therapy (MAPT) is a state chapter of the national Association for Play Therapy (APT), a professional society formed in 1982 to foster contact among psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, counselors, marriage and family therapists, and other mental health professionals interested in exploring and, when developmentally appropriate, applying the therapeutic power of play to communicate with and treat clients, particularly children.
MAPT was chartered as a member of the APT on May 1, 1993, and our bylaws were written by play therapist Kathryn Boone. Since 1993, we have enhanced the quality and quantity of benefits for our growing number of members.
Here at Missouri APT, we are committed to providing local training, advocacy, and peer contact opportunities for play therapists, mental health professionals, and students.
Our Recognition.
MAPT is proudly recognized as a Golden Branch by the national Association for Play Therapy for exhibiting superior performance in the following core areas:
Membership Growth
Sponsored Play Therapy Education
Communications (emails, newsletters, etc) to members
Maintain a percentage of branch members who hold the RPT, RPT-S or SB-RPT credential
Public Play Therapy Outreach promotions
Other: Active website, social media channels, award programs, networking events, and the branch leadership/business meeting at the APT Annual Conference
MAPT was awarded in 2008 a national provider certification for continuing education for play therapists (AP: 08-223), and we now offer annual conferences and workshops statewide for play therapists wishing to receive quality play therapy training and certification as a Registered Play Therapist.
These are the rules of governance for the not-for-profit corporation that operates in the State of Missouri as the Missouri Association for Play Therapy (MAPT).
