This training offers an in-depth exploration of historically significant and seminal play therapy theories that form the foundation of various play therapy practices. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of these theories, conceptual frameworks, techniques, and applications in clinical settings. They will also focus for three hours on Child-Centered Play Therapy. The training is designed for mental health professionals, including counselors, therapists, and social workers, who wish to enhance their theoretical knowledge and practical skills surrounding play therapy.

Objectives:

1. Identify the 4 categories of Therapeutic Powers of Play

2. Identify the 20 therapeutic powers of play

3. Describe how play therapy causes therapeutic change using the therapeutic powers of play in your definition

4. Apply strategies and techniques from each category of therapeutic powers of play and use them in your practice

5. Explain how the use of therapeutic powers of play is trans-theoretical in nature

6. Explain how an understanding of the therapeutic powers of play is essential to a successful prescriptive/integrative approach to play therapy.

This workshop meets APT’s definition of a CONTACT training and is approved by APT Approved Provider 08-223 for 6 CE hours. APT continuing education credit may only be awarded to mental health professionals.

Refund Policy: Refunds will be given for paid continuing education training cancelled by MAPT and for when MAPT relocated trainings to another region of the state. For attendees who cancel 48 hours prior to the start of the training, a MAPT credit will be provided to attendees for the amount paid and can be used at a future MAPT training.
